Preparing an Office Interior Design Brief in Dubai
An office design brief should explain how the business needs the space to work before focusing on visual inspiration. People, activities, storage and the project’s constraints establish the foundation for the design discussion. Afnan Group’s interior service is design only, so the appointment should also explain how the design information will later be used by separately appointed execution parties.
Map the working requirements
List the teams, typical activities, meeting needs and functions the office must support. Explain what works poorly in the current space and which changes matter most. Share the available floor plan and any building information provided by the landlord or project team. Separate confirmed headcount and requirements from possible future expansion so the designer can understand the priorities behind the brief.
Set the design boundaries
Identify the rooms and areas included, the level of design detail expected and any budget or programme constraints. Clarify whether the appointment includes concepts, layouts, visualisations, finish schedules or other agreed deliverables. State who is responsible for specialist design, approvals and site execution. A design appointment should not be interpreted as an interior fit-out contract unless those services have been separately agreed with the appropriate parties.
Organise feedback and handover
Choose the people authorised to review layouts and visual proposals. Consolidate feedback at agreed stages instead of issuing contradictory comments from several departments. Before design handover, confirm which drawings and schedules are included and which decisions remain open. This gives the separately appointed contractor a clearer package to review for its own execution responsibilities and commercial proposal.
Questions to bring to your project discussion
- Which activities must the office accommodate?
- What building information and constraints are available?
- Which design deliverables are included?
- Who handles specialist approvals and execution?
- Who consolidates client feedback at each stage?
Your next step
Prepare your functional needs and available floor plan before requesting a design discussion. Afnan Group can develop an interior design-only brief; procurement, construction, installation and fit-out execution should be arranged through separately appointed parties.
Prepare a project brief ↗These general project-planning guides are not a project-specific engineering specification. Design suitability, applicable requirements and approvals must be established by the responsible project professionals. Afnan’s interior, architectural and parametric services are design only; metal works can be scoped for design and execution.
