Bespoke Stainless-Steel Items: Dimensions, Finish and Use
A bespoke stainless-steel item may look simple in a reference photograph while still containing many decisions about dimensions, edges, joints and the intended use. Buyers get better proposals when they explain the complete requirement. The enquiry should separate an aesthetic reference from the functional and material information that the responsible project team needs to confirm.
Describe the real task
Explain what the item will support, contain or be used for and identify the setting in which it will operate. If hygiene, chemical exposure or another specialist requirement applies, provide the relevant project specification. The fabricator should not have to infer those requirements from an item name. Confirm who reviews the material choice and the suitability of the final arrangement for its intended use.
Resolve dimensions and visible details
Provide a drawing or dimensioned sketch showing the overall item and its important interfaces. Discuss edge treatment, accessible surfaces, visible welds and the appearance of joints. Where it must align with existing work, arrange a sample comparison and verify the relevant dimensions. Do not assume that a description such as brushed finish defines every visible detail or guarantees a match to another supplier’s product.
Agree the acceptance and delivery scope
Identify which samples, drawings or mock-ups will be reviewed before fabrication. Include any inspection information specified for the project and explain delivery and installation conditions. At handover, request the care instructions relevant to the material and finish supplied. A clear acceptance reference makes it easier for the parties to judge the finished item against the approved brief rather than different personal expectations.
Questions to bring to your project discussion
- What is the item’s intended use and environment?
- Who confirms the material specification?
- Are critical dimensions and interfaces shown?
- Are visible edges, welds and finishes agreed?
- Which review and delivery steps are included?
Your next step
Send the intended-use description and drawings together when discussing bespoke work. Afnan Group can review the fabrication brief and identify the material, sample, dimensional and execution information needed before a final proposal is prepared.
Prepare a project brief ↗These general project-planning guides are not a project-specific engineering specification. Design suitability, applicable requirements and approvals must be established by the responsible project professionals. Afnan’s interior, architectural and parametric services are design only; metal works can be scoped for design and execution.
